another year

Time flies. People say that, and it seems true. I'm a little over a year older. I feel good. People freak out for me, but it's all good. Life is good. No complaints. A pinch melancholy. Just a pinch. Thinking of those I miss.

It might be fun?

We have about 2 and a half weeks before our trip. So I am at peace with seeing California. It might be nice to go for a run in 64 degree weather.

Good Gawd.

This heat kills. I.Will.Never.Get.Used.To.It.
I distracted myself in Flagstaff for a few days. It was nice to pretend that I didn't live where you could fry and egg on the sidewalk. Sitting under the stars in a beer garden was a treat. My paleo eating probably didn't agree with beer, but you have to indulge sometimes. That cost me lots of extra miles of the mother effin treadmill. Blah.
Tonight I bake. Coconut flour, you are my friend.

It says "Sucker" on my forehead.

How did I get talked into going to Southern California again? Each time I return, I swear the place off (except for Disneyland, of course) and vow never to give into their economy again- yet here I am. Trip is planned. Rooms reserved. Places set. Oy!
At least I will be in good company. I'll keep reminding myself that Pizza Port is in my future. That, alone, almost...almost makes the trip worth it.

A sad sad song..

Apr. 11th, 2012 | 01:30 pm

There is a certain tone that I hear- sometimes in opera, or children singing..sometimes it's a key of a song and it opens everything up. A well begins in me and ends with some sort of melancholy rush of emotion that leaves me feeling spent and longing..and wishing for things I can't pin point. Always things I have had to say goodbye too.
It's like home. It feels like a longing to be home..

Slow in the game

Feb. 29th, 2012 | 01:37 pm

It's been a while. Sheesh.
So I have always know that music is in my paternal lineage. Recently, I have found several gypsy bands that I have fallen head over heels in love with. Ok, I have known about these bands, but had no idea that we shared a background. Just when you think no one understands your history or assumes that all Romani people ride in caravans and tell fortunes, you find out that some of the music you love was created by people who share your heritage.

Thank you Devotchka, Gogol Bordello, and Django Reinhardt. You make a little Romani girl very, very happy.

The last two weeks have been something of a whirlwind. I'm still dizzy just thinking about it.
Our time on Los Angeles was fun. The worst part of the trip would be the parking garage at the Grove in Hollywood. Not a fan. Of course the magical kingdom was great. Always is. It's good to be back in the desert..always good to have my wide open spaces back. The best part of being home is being able to run again. There is something so relaxing about slipping on my running shoes and plugging my ear buds in and taking off. Best feeling.
